Rummy terms, in plain English.

A glossary for Indian 13-card rummy: sequences, sets, jokers, drops, formats, KYC and bonus wagering.

Pure sequence

Three or more consecutive cards of one suit with no joker standing in. Example: 5♥ 6♥ 7♥. Required in a standard 13-card declaration.

Impure sequence

A run that uses a joker as a missing rank. Useful, but it does not replace the pure-sequence requirement.

Set (book)

Three or four cards of the same rank in different suits, such as 8♥ 8♠ 8♣. Two copies of the same suited rank are not a set.

Joker

Printed joker or a wild rank selected each deal. Jokers have 0 points when grouped; they cannot make a pure sequence.

Drop

Leaving the deal before a declaration. First drop and middle drop carry different penalties — see Scoring.

Declare

Showing a completed 13-card grouping. An invalid declare is usually punished at the maximum score.

Discard / open pile

The card thrown at the end of a turn. Some tables restrict picking a discard you just threw.

Closed deck

The face-down stock. Drawing from here versus the discard changes what opponents can see.

Deadwood

Ungrouped cards that still count against you when someone else declares.

Points Rummy

One-deal format. Result is points × stake for that hand only.

Pool Rummy (101 / 201)

Multi-deal format. Stay below the score limit; the number is the elimination threshold.

Deals Rummy

A session with a fixed number of deals and one overall result.

KYC

Know Your Customer checks (name, PAN, sometimes a video) required before the first withdrawal on most Indian apps.

Wagering

Play-through attached to a welcome bonus before that credit joins the withdrawable wallet.
